The Great Commission Has No Minimum Age
By MTC Nashville Team

Isaac is ten years old. At our training this week, he sat through the full session on baptism — notebook open, following along in Acts, right beside the adults in the room.
Nobody asked him to sit in the back and stay quiet. Nobody handed him a junior version of the material. He was there to learn, and he did — taking his own notes on the conversation like it mattered. Because it does.
What We Assume About Kids and Discipleship
Most of us carry an unspoken assumption: disciple-making training is for adults, and kids are the audience. We sign ourselves up for the equipping and give the children a snack and a coloring sheet until they're "old enough" to really get it.
But watch a ten-year-old track an argument about baptism straight out of Acts 2, writing his own notes, and that assumption falls apart fast. Kids don't have a discipleship switch that flips at 18. They're already watching, already learning, already deciding whether faith is something real people do or something we perform for them.
What Jesus Actually Said
Jesus' final words to His followers were simple: "Go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19). All nations — not all adults.
The Great Commission comes with no minimum age requirement. If a young person can open the Bible, hear God's voice in it, and respond in obedience, then that young person can be a disciple — and disciples make disciples. Isaac isn't the future of the church. He's part of it right now.
How to Include Kids in Disciple Making
Want to raise up Isaacs in your own community? A few things we're learning:
- Invite them into the room. Let kids and teens sit in on real training with real material. They'll rise further than you expect.
- Let them practice with you. Gospel tools, Bible discussions, prayer — do them side by side, not in separate rooms.
- Take their questions seriously. A ten-year-old's question about baptism might be the best one asked all day.
- Expect engagement, not entertainment. We don't need to make training fun enough for kids; we need to make Jesus compelling enough for everyone.

Scripture
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." — Matthew 28:19
Prayer
Father, thank You that Your kingdom belongs to the young as much as to the grown. Give us eyes to see the disciples You're already raising up in the next generation — and the humility to hand them the same tools You've handed us. Amen.
